Hello doc. I have headache since 14 years which comes very often weekly twice or thrice sometimes bearable sometimes severe feeling nauseous. Increases in light and sound whenever I have headache. Sometimes I have headache when I take head bath or cold wind. My eyes and ears also start paining. Whole head and neck region. I had recently consulted neurologist in nimhans he said it is migraine and put me on amitriptyline 10 mg tablet one tablet at night for a month followed by 2 tablet at night for two months. And was supposed to go for follow up this week but due to lighten am unable to visit. Since I cannot stop the tablet suddenly which can have side effects. I request you to follow up my further treatment whether I need to continue same dosage or increase the dosage.

What dose you are taking now and for how many days? If you're taking 10 mg of the drug once daily then you can increase the dose as advised by doctor of nimhans and can continue it for further few weeks till you visit him. But if you have already increased the dose then you shouldn't increase it further. But you can continue it for at least further few weeks provided you don't have any side effects of the drug and of course you are benefited.

Hi lybrate-user, I am a neuro doctor. Looks like the diagnosis of migraine is more likely. I would like to know how is your headache now. If the headache has stopped completely, it is better to taper off the medications. In case it is persisting still, it would be better to go for a scan before continuing on medications or increasing the dose. Thank you.
