Hallucinations are not rare and prevalence in general population has been estimated to be about 5% in major studies. They r easily available online. Apart from occurring in schizophrenia, hallucinations also occur secondary to psychoactive substance use, medical conditions, neurological disorders, sensory deprivation and normally in certain situations. Good psychiatry book at ug level should be oxford textbook of psychiatry. Kaplan and sadock is good for pgs and not for mbbs.

Sleep deprivation can induce hallucinations. As a medical student you shouldn't be using modafanil. Sleep helps memory consolidation so do sleep 6 to 8 hrs when studying else it is would be a wasted effort.
