Your baby is only 10 days old and needs more time for proper latching and you too need time to acclimatize. All you need is confidence and counselling to assure you that you are on the right track. Still if you feel that you do not have enough milk, I would suggest you to have some galactogogues (garlic, pepper) and more milk and water.

Best meal for newborn is breast milk, you can try following to kick start breast milk flow apply hot water socked towels on breasts gradually express breast starting from chest to nipples, collect milk in sterile container and feed baby with a spoon. Milk supply will be established after few expressions. Have patience you can do it don't give up may contact me (pme44c )on Lybrate if needed.

Hi lybrate-user, you can give any stage 1 formula powder, no issues. But mother milk is the best, mother should take tab. Lactare and good calorie diet to improve breast milk production. Continue efforts to give bf.

No. Unless absolutely necessary, don't start formula feed so early in life. Here are few signs of adequate milk 1. Urine passing per day >10 times/day 2. Passing golden coloured stool 3. Baby feeding for around 10-15 mins every session & sleeps well for 2-3 hrs thereafter. 4. Weight gain. This will start after the baby has regained his birth weight (10-14 days). After day 14, baby normally gains around 25-30 gm/day (it's not a fixed value) most of the time, inadequate milk is due to improper feeding technique. We call it "latching" make sure latching is correct & take help if necessary.

Breast milk is the best nutrition for newborn. It has many advantages. If baby will suck enough milk will be available. If child passes 6-8 times urine /24 hrs, have 2-3 hrs sleep after each feed you shouldn't worry. Take care of your diet and rest. You should consult a pediatrician before starting formula milk for needful decision.
