Had 70% of cavity and was hospitalized for 6-7 days. Did not have diabetes. Taken remdisever inj and also steroid like dexon. I wanted to ask that nowadays new disease arise called black fungus infection which found in patient who recovered from covid. So I want to ask the steroid like dexon remains in body for how many days? Till how many weeks have to take proper precautions?

Fungal infection called mucormycosis occurs due to dry mouth, uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, especially those with ketoacidosis, are at high risk. And weak immune system with debilitating disease or patient on corticosteroids. Dos - control hyperglycemia - monitor blood glucose level post-covid-19 discharge and also in diabetics - use steroid judiciously ? correct timing, correct dose and duration - use clean, sterile water for humidifiers during oxygen therapy - use antibiotics/antifungals judiciously don'ts - do not miss warning signs and symptoms - do not consider all the cases with blocked nose as cases of bacterial sinusitis, particularly in the context of immunosuppression and/or covid-19 patients on immunomodulators - do not hesitate to seek aggressive investigations, as appropriate (koh staining & microscopy, culture, malditof), for detecting fungal etiology - do not lose crucial time to initiate treatment for mucormycosis.
