My father has been ailing from psvt since dec, 2019. He is 83 years old. He takes calaptin sr 120 and dabigatran 150. But off late be has been having blood in urine because of dabigatran as it is a blood thinner. He now also has a prostate problem which could be cancer of the prostate. Dabigatran has been temporarily stopped as a result. My question is - why is it necessary to take dabigatran along with calaptin? Thank you!

In cases with arrhythmias with high risk of clotting, dabigat or warfarin is given to protect from clotting. That's all right. Don't worry. Just get usg kub prostrate and s psa to rule out cancer. Nothing to worry, prostate problems are very common.
