I am 30 married having pcod. I take telma 40 and lypaglin for high bp and cholesterol daily. My period is irregular and my prolactin e level gets high very often and then until I take cabergoline my periods won't come. Last month my doctor prescribed me to take meprate twice a day for 8 days every month and I will get my period. Is meprate a steroid and has side effects of being diabetic and getting any infection if I take meprate every month? In that case is there any alternate option of getting my period regularly without any steroid?

Hello! Meprate is not a steroid, it is a type of progesterone. Progesterone needs to be produced by the ovary in the second half of your menstrual cycle in order to cause regular bleeding. Since it is not produced in every cycle in PCOS, you can take it in the form of tablets to cause regular bleeding. It is safe. Also combine with lifestyle modification in terms of diet and exercise. Take care!
