Dear sir, cancer is usually caused by abnormal uncontrolled growth of cells of body leading to symptoms like palpable lump, ulceration, abnormal bleeding, weight loss, loss of appetite, difficulty in swallowing, difficulty in breathing etc etc depending on organ affected. Usually in males lungs and head and neck cancers are common. It is generally caused by some carcinogens like tobacco, pollution, radiation exposure, pesticides, industrial wastes etc so one has to avoid known carcinogens. Regular exercise, healthy diet, fruits and vegetables, whole grains etc should be consumed.

Some cancers in which screening has been shown to be effective includes breast, coclon, rectum, cervix, prostate, lung in high risk groups but as mentioned earlier it is planned with participation of both individual and oncologist.
