My father prescribed to continue calutide 50 mg 2 times a day post orchiodectomy after prostate cancer diagnosis 5 years ago. His psa has been 0.01 consistently. Can you please advise whether calutide can be discontinued and dosage reduced?

Hi lybrate-user. What was the gleason score on prostate biopsy and what was his psa at begining, if psa is consistently at this level you can continue calutide. Though, we used to prescribe calutide 50 mg once a day after orchidectomy. Did he have metastatic prostate cancer? # calutide is like a friend which turns into enemy later on. So, calutide is stopped if psa starts rising again. You do not need to stop calutide at present. Calutide initially works against cancer and then works with cancer. Rising psa is an indicator. Psa needs to be done at 3 month interval. Hope this helps you, thanks.
