Dear, glimepiride is a sulfonylurea and the other drug is a combination of metformin and sitagliptin. The three drugs have different mode of aciton. Glimepiride and sitapliptin increases the secretion of insulin from the pancreas whereas metformin acts by increasing insulin sensitivity on the tissue sites as well as suppressing glucose generation by the liver. Having said that all these drugs have some or the other side effect. The management of diabetes is trifold, diet, exercise and drugs. Kindly report your current sugar levels, hba1c and other reports so as a proper guidance can be provided.
