Good evening sir my elder brother aged about 30 years is very normal friendly happy etc and he stays at home only but when he consumes a one single peg of alcohol he just goes out and stoles mobile phones or beg money at bars and wines because of this we being having good respect in the society unable to digest this and we are pleased to beat him or scold him badly sir by doing this we do not know whether its correct or not so please suggest us to do things which can take my brother on the right track.

Dear lybrate-user, Your brother might be having hypomanic episodes as during this episode, symptom like alcohol use, over cheerfulness, increase physical activity, increase speech etc. Many times these episode are very short lasting like for few days only. This could be a part of bipolar affective disorder. I would recommend you to consult psychiatrist and get him evaluated. Good and effective treatment are available for his condition. All d best!
