Sr is sustained release, so even if the dose is higher it is released slowly over large span of time. Thus it seems to be less effective but this sustained release preparation will help reduce your insulin resistance This is helpful in long run!

The difference is sr means sustained release, where the drug metformin is released over 12 hrs at a constant rate and the drug action is prolonged. Normal tablet releases the drug in about an hour or so, action lasts for lesser time. Sr tablets also produce lesser gastro intestinal side effects.
