I was sick (grip) so I took medications (augmentin it is antibiotic and panadol for fever) for 5 days. After 4 days of stopping the medications I went to the laboratory and make an hiv 1&2 (elisa) test. The result was negative. My question: the medication can change the hiv result from positive to negative? Or it will not change, and I must be sure that the medication couldn't affect the result and I am sure that I am negative! please advise doctor, regards.

Good Morning ~ If you have been diagnosed in the past with HIV infection, you probably still have it even if it is treated with the current available anti-retroviral therapies. I believe that the therapies for depression is also needed in your situation since you will be able to change your outlook towards the illness since there is no curative remedies for HIV infection that are currently available and I am not sure where you got the information that the antibiotics will change your HIV status, however it is not true. You HIV test result may be negative as your condition may have improved, however your HIV infection may be dormant and any stoppage of ART or drop in immunity due to any other reason may reactive the underlying HIV infection and lead to full blown AIDS. I can help you more if you have any further questions or queries regarding this condition.
