My wife is suffering from Bipolar disorder. She had had an episode of Mania in August after which this condition was diagnosed. Doctor had prescribed Divalpro 750 mg as maintenance drug which was later reduced to 500 mg as she was experiencing dizziness. She is facing weight gain and hair fall which is probably the side effects of this. Can we have some other alternatives to this to avoid these side effects?

Good Morning ~ Weight gain is usually due to increase in appetite from the medication and not because of the medication itself. Appetite suppressants can be used or a healthy diet will decrease the weight along with exercise. Dizziness is usually postural and is experienced as such if the patient already has problems with other medical conditions and is not a very common side effect of the medication that your wife is using. There are many alternatives to treatment and I recommend that you connect with a psychiatrist to find them for yourself.
