Many sperm die on their journey to reach eggs, it is strong protected sperm in middle that are able to last the whole jouney and reach final goal sucessfully.

Saliva contain numerous digestive enzymes and bacteria that help in digestion. When sperm comes in contact with saliva, it immediately starts digesting the sperms (as mostly the sperm consists of protein and amino acids).
