Taking oral contraceptives before the age of 20 has been associated with a higher risk of developing fibroadenomas. The exact cause of fibroadenomas is not known. Hormones such as estrogen may play a part in the growth and development of the tumors. Taking oral contraceptives before the age of 20 has been associated with a higher risk of developing fibroadenomas. These tumors may grow, particularly during pregnancy. During menopause, they often shrink. It is also possible for fibroadenomas to resolve on their own. If you are diagnosed with a fibroadenoma, it does not necessarily have to be removed. Depending on your physical symptoms, family history, and personal concerns, you and your doctor can decide whether to have it removed or not. Fibroadenomas that do not grow and are definitely not cancerous can be closely monitored with clinical breast exams and imaging tests, such as mammograms and ultrasounds. The decision to have a fibroadenoma removed typically depends on the following: if it impacts the natural shape of the breast if it causes pain if you are concerned about developing cancer if you have a family history of cancer if you received questionable biopsy results Due to the slightly increased risk of breast cancer, you should have regular checkups with your doctor and schedule regular mammograms if you have fibroadenomas.

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help for your sister. Given her present description of symptoms, she may require, firstly, a drainage of the pus and treatment with suitable antibiotics to cure bacterial infection, if any. Please connect with a breast specialist or her OB/ GYN in person for a clinical examination, and suitable treatment as would deem fit in her case. Ensure that the area, where pus comes out, is cleaned properly with a suitable antiseptic lotion, or any other medicine that her breast specialist recommends. Sooner or later, a surgical removal of the fibroadenoma is advisable to avert similar such complications in future. An excisional biopsy may be attempted as would be decided by her specialist. Simultaneously, let her keep diet and lifestyle streamlined, and stay well hydrated. She can also take tomato soup to which fresh herbs like garlic, turmeric, black pepper, ginger, coriander leaves and oregano has been added, once to twice daily. Avoid sour and high calorie food stuff including any kind of fast foods. Hope this helps. You can connect for an integrative traction any time. Do take care and all the very best. Sincerely
