Hi lybrate-user, it is an articulation problem as suggested by your speech therapist, and it needs to be corrected. Most treatment is focused on awareness and learning correct way to produce the sound r at different position of the word. It is not an overnight job. It takes time and dedication. It can be made creative in order to get the child's attention to do what and how you want. You may want to take regular classes with speech therapy. Please do not wait for time to heal. It usually does not. All the best.
