Hello Mr. lybrate-user One of the causes of Schizophrenia is. Genetic, but there is no set rule that your child will get it. Future cannot be predicted about treatment. But schizophrenia is a Treatable disorder.

Schizophrenia is like Diabetes or Hypertension, symptoms can be controlled and the person's life made functional. So your psychiatrist comments on next 15 years cure, am not sure. You should ask him to elaborate how. When one of the parent has schizophrenia, the child has 10 to 20% risk of getting the disorder, so remaining 80% the chances are the child may not get.
