Healthy lifestyle along with healthy diet is rewarding and should not be comprised. Some of the key factors of a healthy lifestyle include maintaining a healthy weight, taking a healthy diet, doing physical activities, quit smoking and limit alcohol intake. Same is the case with breast cancer diet. Taking a healthy path may lower the risk of recurrence and improve the survival.
It is observed that breast cancer is less common in the countries where a normal diet consists of plant-based food and low in total fat. Some of the studies suggest that girls who eat a high-fat diet during puberty have a higher risk of developing breast cancer later in life. High-fat diets make people overweight or obese which is one of the breast cancer risk factors. Extra fat cells in overweight women make estrogen which can be the reason to cause extra breast cell growth. This extra cell growth may increase the risk of breast cancer.
Women tend to re-evaluate their health practices after the diagnosis of breast cancer. Most of the women wonder what may have caused it what changes should be made in their lifestyle. Almost all women believe that making changes in their diet will ensure good results following the treatment of breast cancer. Hence they do make certain changes and go on a breast cancer diet.

Food Items To Limit
- All raw food items have to be avoided as they have chances of contamination with micro organisms which might compromise the immunity.
- Foods that are kept in refrigerator have to be avoided as they too might get contaminated with micro organisms.
- All oily and fatty foods, smoked foods, frozen and foods that contain preservatives have to be avoided.
- Organ meats, red meats should be avoided as they have high levels of cholesterol and saturated fat.
- Sour yoghurt should be avoided as that would have been contaminated.
- Untoasted/ Ungrilled bread should be avoided due to chances of contamination.
Do's And Dont's
Do's:
- Stay hydrated all the time.
- Include nutrient dense (macro and micro) foods in your meal. Fibre has to be included as it plays a major role in gastro intestinal related cancers.
- Consume Properly cooked vegetables and other food items.
- Consume the fruits then and there after chopping.
Don'ts:
- Avoid oily foods, junk foods, foods thaat include cream, mayonnaise, cheese. Avoid salads, half cooked foods, unpasteurised milk/juices.
- Avoid fatty/smoked/cured meats and meat products.
- Never eat foods that are kept in refrigerator after cooking.
Food Items You Can Easily Consume
- Cereal: Brown rice, whole wheat, oats, jowar, bajra, ragi
- Pulses: red gram, green gram, black gram, bengal gram and beans like kidney, navy, pinto, back eyed, broad, cluster, french.
- Vegetables: all gourds-bitter gourd, snake gourd, ridge gourd, bottle gourd, ivy gourd, ladies finger, tinda,green leafy vegetables, beet root, carrot.
- Fruits: banana, citrus fruits-orange, mousambi, grape fruit, lemon; berries, custard apple, cherries, papaya, pineapple, avocado, guava. Nuts & seeds: chia & flax seeds, almonds, walnuts.
- Milk and milk products: low fat milk, low fat curd (packed).
- Meat,fish & egg: Skin out chicken, egg white, fish like salmon, sardines, trout, mackerel, tuna.
- Oil: 2 tsp (10ml)
- Sugar: 2 tsp (10gm)
- Other beverages: green tea.
