Hello, i’m 23 years old. This is my case… I had sex on January 9th with a sex worker. It was the first risky sex I had for almost 3 years. We had vaginal sex for around 3 or 6 minutes until I started feeling guilty for that sex and I was beginning to lose interest (losing my erection) so I asked her to give me oral sex until the end of the sexual act. I must say I was using condoms all the time in both vaginal and oral sex.
She was a street sex worker, which I think is riskier than having sex with a sex worker someone can found on the “sex clubs” around my country (in which they “claim” to test their workers each month against any std). In other words, I don’t really know whether the lady I had sex with had an std or not.
On january 20th, I got a blood analysis in order to determine if I was able to donate platelets. Besides checking my platelet volume, the doctor told me they were going to analyze if my blood was free of some diseases as well (sexual-related diseases, I remember he said). The results came by the next morning and happily, they told me I was ok and able to donate my platelets. I’d like to add that I had been going to the gym for some weekdays from january 7th until the day of the platelets’ donation on february 6th. By the way, the blood analysis results relieved me because I was worried about any possible consequence (disease) from the risky sex I had earlier that month.
Later, around the last week of february, some of my friends started telling me that I looked thinner. I did’t believe it until there were at least 6 or 7 people who told me the same. I thought this “possible weight loss” could be related to the platelets’ donation I had had at the beginning of that month. Nevertheless, at some point, I happened to link that “possible weight loss” as one likely symptom of hiv. Anyway, I tried not to worry that much about that “possible weight loss” which is why I did’t check on my weight during those days.
I must add that i’m 1.72 meters and I have always weighted from 72 to 73 kg. The last time I checked on my weight I got this: 71. 7 kg on february 3rd (after a month of the gym and before the platelets’ donation, when I stopped going to the gym). Besides, the only change I had on my diet started on january 1st when I stopped eating much junk food and it didn’t show much weight loss during my month of the gym.
Finally, on march 15th I had indigestion and I went to the nursery of my job. They had a balance in there, which I used for finding out that I was weighing 68 kg… it was the first time I measured my weight after everybody telling me I looked thinner. I asked the doctor (who treated my indigestion) at that moment about my weight loss and told me that it could be since I had been having diarrhea during the previous 3 days before measuring my weight that day. Furthermore, the doctor told me that, after recovering from indigestion, my weight loss might be gone but if not, I might need analysis for checking possible diseases like anemia.
Last wednesday (march 18th) I tried to look for an hiv testing place, but I could’t find any open around my job (maybe because of the quarantine against covid-19)… besides, I did’t know which hiv test type was my best choice to look for… i’d really love somebody to tell me there are other feasible reasons – more likely than hiv – for this weight loss which is the only symptom I have besides indigestion I had last week….
