Hi! I am Dr Pannam Sharma, Gynaecologist, Apollo Cradle & I Women Clinic, Delhi. Today I will talk about a high-risk pregnancy. In high-risk pregnancy, mother or the developing fetus is having a condition that places either any one of them or both of them at a higher than normal risk of getting into the complication.
It can happen in the antenatal or post delivery or during the delivery. Women above 35 years of age are more prone to it. If the patient's weight is less than 45 Kgs or obese, then also she is more prone to the risk. If a patient is carrying multiple pregnancies then they carry a high risk of preterm labour. If a patient has pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes or any medical condition then also the patient has the same risk.
Now about the fetus. If it has any growth restriction or excess weight gain due to any of the maternal conditions. If the patient has multiple abortions or having a history of preterm birth or any medical condition in her previous pregnancy is also termed as a high-risk pregnancy. For any query, you can contact us through Lybrate. Thank You.
