AFB - MOTT panel Test

AFB-MOTTO panel test is one of the most important tests when it comes to secure the public health. For a prompt management of public health, Rapid detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), especially multidrug-resistant strains is done. It is used to detect the TB infection that is happening due to one of the Mycobacteria present in the blood. It is done when a person is suffering from coughing; sneezing from a long time and even being medication the treatment is not working properly. It helps to know if the Acid-fast bacillus is present in the blood and then a new treatment is started.

There are no special preparations required before the test. You can eat whatever you like and have a usual diet plan. However, consultation plays an important role when it comes to getting the accurate result. So, one must see the doctor and follow the instruction given by him before the test. Since it is a blood test, you are advised to wear Foldable full sleeves, half sleeves or sleeveless shirt should be worn on the day of the test. It will help the doctor to take your blood sample easily.

The main aim of the test is to detect the Acid-Fast bacilli in the blood and after diagnosis starts the treatment. If the AFB is not found in the blood that means there is no infection and the result is negative. If there is AFB presence in the MOTTO blood panel, then it means that there is an infection in the body and the treatment after the completion is done.

AFB MOTT blood panel test is performed on the blood, and it is known as “cultured AFB Mycobacterium other than Tuberculosis (MOTT) drug sensitivity for rapid growers”. Before taking the sample, the skin and the needle are cleaned using the alcohol. Then an elastic band is wrapped around the upper part of the elbow to stop the blood flow and increase the size of the veins so that the blood can be quickly taken out. Then the needle is injected into the vein, and the blood sample is collected into the tube attached to the needle. Once the needle is ejected the elastic band is unwrapped, and the sample container is closed tightly. Then with your name on the tube, the sample is sent to lab for the analysis.
