Celiac Disease Profile Test

Celiac Disease Profile Test

The Celiac Disease profile test is used to detect the different set antibodies present in the blood. If these antibodies are present, that means you have the celiac disease and if they are not that mean you don’t. It is used to diagnose celiac disease and to evaluate the effectiveness of a gluten-free diet. When you have symptoms such as chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain, anemia, and weight loss or if one of your family members has the celiac disease, then you may be asked to have the test as well. For infants, if they are chronically irritable or fail to grow at a normal rate then this test is suggested.

To know how to prepare and what diet plan to follow, one should be connected with their doctor. You should tell the doctor about your medical history, the food you have been taking and your family’s medical history as well. Based on the information given, the doctor will give some instructions that should be followed for an accurate result. Since it is a blood test, one should wear loose clothing so that it is easy for the doctor to take the blood sample.

The test result is based on what types of antibodies are present in the blood and in what amount. The test result will be positive if any of the above-stated antibodies are present in the blood. In these cases, the antibodies that are present and their number are studied to start the treatment. In the case the treatment is already going, the number will be lesser, but the result will still be positive. The test result will be negative if there are no antibodies present in the blood.

Your blood sample is taken to detect the antibodies such as anti-tTG, Quantitative immunoglobulin A (IgA) and Deamidated gliadin peptide (DGP) antibodies. Before taking the sample, the skin and the needle are cleaned using the alcohol. Then an elastic band is wrapped around the upper part of the elbow to stop the blood flow and increase the size of the veins so that the blood can be quickly taken out.

Then the needle is injected into the vein, and the blood sample is collected into the tube attached to the needle. Once the needle is ejected the elastic band is unwrapped, and the sample container is closed tightly. Then with your name on the tube, the sample is sent to the lab for the analysis.
