also known as: Lupus Erythematosus Cell Quantitative Buffy Coat Blood, Lupus Erythematosus Cell

LE Cells test is done in order to identify, lupus cells in the person, through a blood test. Previously this test was used for diagnosing Systematic Lupus Erythematosus, but now it has been replaced by Anti-nuclear Antibody Blood test which is considered as the standard criteria. It is caused by the presence of antibodies that are defense proteins which weaken wide range of tissues. It also causes effects on kidneys, brain, heart, lungs, skin as well as joints. Identification for performing LE cells test are fever, rashes, joint pains, fatigue or light sensitivity. Though there are various methods of testing LE cells, still safety method is to collect the blood sample.

LE Cells test does not require any special preparation in order, to undergo this test. It is utmost important to inform the doctor if the patient is undergoing any medications or have an allergy towards any tests or medical conditions. It is also necessary to inform the doctor about medicines or health supplements if the patient is presently taking during the test. So the doctor will advise after checking the condition of the patient and informs whether to continue them or not. Though there is no fasting require before giving the blood sample for testing, it is better to consult the doctor.

LE Cells test is used for the detection of lupus in the body of a person. The test results conclude the following considerations: If 2 to 3% of lupus cells are detected in LE cells test, then the result is considered as positive. If more than 10 characteristic LE cells are observed along with extracellular and nuclear masses, during 15 minutes search, then also test results yields positive. LE cells test is positive in 95% of Systematic Lupus Erythematosus cases. If there are other autoimmune diseases, then at that point less than 20% cases will yield a positive result.

LE Cells test is carried out in various ways that is by Heparinized bone marrow or Heparinized venous blood or Oxalated venous blood or defibrinated venous blood or clotted venous blood or LE factor and donor cells. The patient will feel convenient only if the clotted venous blood test is conducted. At first, the site from where blood has to be collected is cleaned with cotton and alcohol. Then the band is tied above the area and vein is searched. Next needle is inserted into the vein and required amount of blood is collected. Then blood is transferred into a tube which has clot activator. Finally, the band is removed from the hand and the tube is sent for results.
