Tissue Transglutaminase Antibody or TTGA - IgA is a single effective test to diagnose Celiac Disease. This disease is characterized by unwarranted response to gluten in the diet. Gluten is a protein found in food grains like wheat, rye, barley etc. the body releases antibodies if gluten is ingested. The antibodies IgA are especially linked to celiac disease. The presence of these antibodies causes inflammation of the small intestine and causes damage to the internal wall of the intestines. The damage to the internal walls of the intestine leads to issues like mal absorption, and consequently lead to malnutrition. The TTGA – IgA detects the presence of IgA class of antibodies in the blood.

It is a single time blood test, and the physician will give all the information regarding preventions to be taken before the test. Generally a person who has not been diagnosed with the Celiac disease should carry on a gluten diet for some weeks before the test, otherwise no special preparation is needed.
