If you are a type 1 patient you need to take insulin life long.
Humalog 50/ 50 (lispro) is 12 hr insulin so you need to take it 2 times daily.
50/50 means 50 % covers your breakfast sugars and remaining 50 % controls sugar for next 12 hrs.
If your breakfast and dinner is heavy then it suits you. You can do smbg charting with glucometer at home to check your sugar fluctuations. It will help to monitor your insulin dosage.

Take your insulin in routine. Homolog before meals n lantus bedtime. What is more important you should check your sugar before n after exercise.
