Yes it is used. But it is not a permanent solution.
Better take homeopathic treatment. It can cure PCOD.

Hello, thanks for the query.
From the details given I understand that you are on gluconorm 4 mg (how many times day?), plus metformin 1000 mg is once plus what is that "under 5 mg tablet? Fasting glucose 200 mg is definitely very high.
Another important aspect is your excess weight. With a bmi of 37.5 kgs/sq meter (normal < 23 kgs/sq meter) you have over 34 kgs extra. That itslef is an invitation for uncontrolled blood glucose. It is better if you come with clear details and current fast...more

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for your query.

Dear lybrate user,
it is said that pcod occurs due to insulin resistance in the body. Insulin is a hormone that regulates blood sugar levels. Insulin resistance also hampers normal functioning of ovaries resulting in high level of androgens (male hormones). Melmet i. E metformin is prescribed to correct the insulin resistance in the body to overcome the pcod related problems.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
It would have been better if you had mentioned your current fasting and PP glucose levels, because without looking at that, difficult to give any opinion. Usually Melmet (metformin) should be fine. Thanks.

Lybrate-user, taking metformin while breast feeding the baby, produces no effects on baby's blood glucose level. A number of clinical studies have reported that metformin taken while breast feeding a baby does not affect the baby adversely at all. So you need not worry about it. Thanks for the question.

It is essential to be vigilant and be aware of the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle and not just depend on the medicines. It is the combined effect of your habits and the medicines that play a major role in the control of blood sugar. Therefore always go for regular health check up and follow the advise of the doctor. The motto of treatment is to gain maximum benefit from the medicines (the doctor has to select the medicines based on your individual needs and current health condition) w...more
