Hello lybrate-user, asd needs closure by device, it does not close on its own. Even if your baby is cliniclly asymptomatic, he will need to undergo this procedure after 1 year of age 2 prevent complications later in life.

This is a pediatric condition. These kind of defects may close on their own in due course of time. Often, care is required with no specific medicine based treatment. Depending on the age and other conditions of the baby, surgery is either a MUST or need not be done at all. You can take a second opinion with the specialist at the Medical College at Midnapore itself.

It might become smaller but complete closure spontaneously is not known. But it's a mild defect don't worry.

- take advise of the cardiologist as the best option can be selected for the child.
