Dear lybrate-user, pneumoccocal vaccine is for pneumonia prevention.
It is not given in national schedule and it is costly. Government does not provide it. However indian acadamy does recommend it there are two brands - synflorix and prevenar. Prevenar is costly.
Both does not have much differences.

Take 4 weeks gap for taking prevenar 13.
Pneumovax 23 contains more serotype - 23 but because it is polysaccharide vaccine so it is less antigenic i.e build less immunity.
But it is safer so recommended for immunocompromised childrens and adults.
So don't worry.

Chronic respiratory diseases like bronchial asthma, bronchiectasis, copd, sarcoidosis and interstitial lung disease are vulnerable to repeated infections and multiple hospital visits or admission.

The main reasons for the increased susceptibility is altered lung defence, use of steroids in various respiratory conditions and multiple comorbidities like diabetes and coronary disease.

Patients should ideally be vaccinated for pneumococcal and influenza disease routinely.
