Dear Lybrate user,
its good that your husband is responding to treatment. Side effects are inevitable part of any treatment. However we can find ways to reduce them by modifying the medicines and adding on counselling. Don't worry. Feel assured. Fix an appointment with a psychiatrist either in person or through tele consultation. You will get appropriate guidance.

Dear Aishwarya,
Aggressiveness may be a part of your paranoid schizophrenia.
Schizophrenia needs to be treated with antipsychotics. There are many different types of antipsychotic available. One had to try few of them before deciding the proper drug and dose. May be soltus 200 did not work that well the doctor changed to risperidone (risdone plus)
Once your paranoid ideas come down, the aggressiveness will be controlled. Please continue treatment and consult the doctor repeatedly.

Dear Shadab,
Nice to know that you are concerned about your father. High cholesterol levels cause ischemia that can cause slowness.
Another possibility is there, please check on it. Is he taking Risdone plus (containing both Risperidone and THP) or Risdone (only risperidone). If he took risdone without THP, he might have got little risperidone induced parkinson. It might have slowed him down. Probably in the native place, risdone plus was not available.

Psychiatric medicines take longer duration to show the desired effect. They may take from 15 days to 2-3 months to get the right concentration in the blood. Kindly do not stop or alter medication yourself without asking your psychiatrist.

You need to combine medication with therapy to get the maximum benefits of both. Although this is a long term disease, and you will probably remain for long on medication you must still persevere. Schizophrenia is a very complex and difficult disease to treat, even with medication. All psychotropic medicines have side-effects: that is inescapable. But I suspect that you are depending entirely on medication when in reality you need to combine it with counselings or therapy. In therapy you will le...more

If a person is taking risdone plus zapodil for schizophrenia treatment, she can not stop the medicine for life. She can only change the medicine or the dose of medicine depending on the benefit and side effects. If she is taking it for any other illness, please write all the details of it. If she is planning to have a child, let her talk to her doctor.

Dear Swapna,
If Sulpitac 100 mg alone is able to maintain your improvement, you can stop risdone ls by taking risdone 1 mg for 2 weeks and stop. But i doubt it. Your positive symptoms like hallucinations and delusions may come up if you stop risdone l s.

Risdone can cause weight gain at high doses. Improve your lifestyle- diet, exercise. If you still feel that weight is going up, get lipid panel, fasting sugar and hba1c checked.
