About S-Amlodipine

S-Amlodipine is known to be a calcium channel blocker. Thus, it effectively treats hypertension and angina, that is, pain in the chest. The drug reduces the effect of calcium in the body, increasing blood flow to and from the heart as well as the blood vessels in the body. This in turn helps lower blood pressure of the body, regulate erratic heartbeat and relaxes the heart.

The dosage of S-Amlodipine and the duration it needs to be taken for, depends on the extent of your condition. The drug can be taken orally either with food or without. The drug should be swallowed whole. S-Amlodipine is most effective when it is not chewed or crushed. It is most effective if the entire prescribed course is completed.

      • Interaction with Medicine

        • Calcium may reduce the calcium channel blocker's effects, particularly hypotension.
        • Rifampin increases the metabolism of calcium channel blockers; adjust the dose of calcium channel blocker to maintain efficacy.
      • Interaction with Disease

        Increased angina and/or MI has occurred with initiation or dosage titration of calcium channel blockers. Use caution in severe aortic stenosis. Use caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established. Dosage titration should occur after 7-14 days on a given dose.
      • Interaction with Food

        Consumption of grapefruit juice is not recommended as it increases the concentration of S-Amlodipine. Inform the doctor if you experience dizziness, headache, swelling of hands and feet is necessary.
