Alcohol sugar jaggery and starchy foods raise triglycerides. Eat a traditional, balanced diet, not the modern restricted diet. Try diet and exercise first, medicines later if needed. Please discuss on phone if you require specific instructions. Best wishes.

6 days is not enough time to decide whether medication is effective or not. Wait for 4-6 weeks, repeat tests then and then consult.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
No drug is recommended when TSh is below 10 mU/L. Similarly when TGL levels are below 500 mg, no treatment is required. Only proper exercise and diet control is enough. Thanks.

Hi, Well the drug you were on has worked and brought your TG level back to normal. So you are a young guy and I would suggest you stop the medicine for 3 months. Stick to some daily workout like a regular brisk walk, cut down on you fried, fatty foods and cut down on your red meat if at all you have any. Also get your Lipid profile done after 3 months and follow up. Take care.

It has been proven that fenofibrate (Lipicard) doesn’t have any advantage over statins in reducing triglycerides levels and cardiovascular risk. Statins are better than fenofibrate. But I need to see your complete lipid profile report to advice you regarding the need for medicines. Normally it’s not required to start medicine for isolated elevated triglyceride level with normal LDL level, unless the TRiglyceride levels are very high > 400-500.

Choose healthier fats. You should limit both total fat and saturated fat. Limit foods with cholesterol. Eat plenty of soluble fiber. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Eat fish that are high in omega-3 fatty acids. Limit salt. Limit alcohol.

Yes, you can stop it but you will need to take very good care of diet as well as an exercise routine to maintain it without medicine.
