Hello Lybrate User, * Poor personal hygiene is one of the main reasons why the buttocks / anus may smell extremely offensive. The other hygiene factor is not bathing frequently or changing underwear as often as it should. * Sweaty Butt - Sweat contributes to an offensive odor anywhere on the body when it is excessive, accumulates or is not removed with bathing during the course of the day. The same applies to the buttock area. * Soiled Clothing - Clothing may retain odors which can then contribute to the overall odor of the skin. Sweat, fecal particles, dead skin and bacteria coat the underwear after a short period of use and can then contribute to its own odor apart from odor from the anus and skin. * Obesity - Obesity can limit a person?s movement and make it difficult adequately clean the anus and perianal area. * Immobility - this will increase the risk of an offensive odor persisting in the buttock area, limit mobility this may also be seen with fractured bones, spinal cord injury, strokes, Parkinson?s disease, neuromuscular disorders and even with severe back pain. * Diarrhea - Diarrhea can contribute to an offensive odor in the buttock area due to the watery consistency. Diarrheal stool may leave remnants on the buttock that may not be cleaned by usual practices. Fatty stools (steatorrhea) may also have a more offensive odor than normal. * Leaking Feces - Fecal incontinence is a term where there is an inability to hold back a bowel movement. Sometimes the anus cannot prevent small amounts of feces from leaking out, which may be commonly referred to as anal leakage but this is fecal incontinence as well. The offensive odor is a result of the feces soiling the underwear and due to improper cleaning of the buttock region. Above mentioned points are the few reasons behind foul smelling anus. Take care.

I would suggest you Sitz bath: take hot water in a tub and add betadine solution, cover your anal area and sit for 15-20 minutes twice a day if possible thrice a day. It will reduce bleeding and helpful for healing. Wash the anal area with mild soap, pat dry and apply the Lignocaine jelly after bowel movement and at bedtime. Liquid cremaffin plus 2 tsp twice a day. You should prevent constipation by eating healthy food, which contains fiber. Avoid spicy, fatty, heavy meals and meat. Avoid smoking if you smoke. If your symptoms persist, I would suggest you visit a general surgeon for clinical and physical examination to know about degree of hemorrhoids. Treatment (medical or surgical) can be decided by surgeon. Hope I have answered your query. If you have any queries, I will be happy to help you. Thank you.

Foul smell is due to piles. It is suggested to have sitz bath. It is a warm, shallow bath where you sit in to relieve discomfort in your perineal region. Soak your anal area in warm water as it relaxes your anal sphincter. This increases blood flow through your anal tissues and gives you relief from pain. Do it for 15-20 minutes twice a day. Wash the anal area with mild soap gently and apply some cream suggested by your doctor.
