Hi, Thanks for writing in, welcome to the forum. Schizophrenia is a severe mental illness (SMI). Psychotic symptoms are one of the many symptoms of schizophrenia. Psychotic symptoms are also one of the most obvious symptoms of schizophrenia. Presence of delusions, hallucinations, odd behaviors leading to poor functioning can all be symptoms of schizophrenia. One may be able to notice smiling/ muttering to self, suspiciousness etc in a patient with schizophrenia. In different people different symptoms may be present. Medicines are usually the mainstay of treatment whereas counseling, therapy, lifestyle changes are needed to improve various aspects of the disease as well. Take care!
