I am thirteen weeks pregnant now. I am suffering with diabetes. Pre pregnancy diabetes. I am taking insulin actrapid 30 units three times before d meals and glycomet500 mg after breakfast and dinner. Still my sugars are not under complete control. I am following diet also. Can you suggest the ways to control sugar levels? Will diabetes cause any harm to my baby. Tell me about complications. FBS between 83 to 98 Pp between 90 to 170. It is raising and coming down. Why?is there any danger to both of us. Thank you.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. As you have diabetes before pregnancy, it is essential to control it strictly with Insulin as being done now. Ideally blood glucose has to be maintained between 90 to 120 mg all through the day. (Fasting and PP). Your fasting looks good. What may be needed is to increase the Insulin dose pre lunch and Pre dinner by about 2 units. You will have to monitor glucose at least 4 to 6 times a day. Maintain a proper chart of Insulin dose and glucose level. Complications of uncontrolled diabetes are many on pregnancy. Major problems are improper growth of the baby, macrosomia (big baby over 3.5 kgs), unpleasant out comes of pregnancy like miss carriage. If you have any doubts please come back. Thanks.
