My sister is 27 years old. Yesterday we checked her blood sample. In that report HBs Ag is positive. Presently she is 1 month pregnant. She didn't received any vaccine till now. Shall she receive vaccine now or after delivery? Is there any problem to baby with this. How can we cure this.

Baby will be given immunoglobulin after birth, vaccine for her won't work now. Just relax. Get her husbands hepatitis status also checked. If he is normal then he can be vaccinated. Your sister will either develop immunity or become a carrier She will need to be under supervision of her doctor. Most of the patients do develop immunity so don't worry.

Jaundice type b is passed from mother to baby through placenta. If mother has had jaundice type b in past, Australia antigen test will be positive for rest of her life. She should get vaccinated now, baby blood to be checked at birth and vaccination given to baby also after delivery.
