Dear Lybrate user it is beginning of inflammatory changes which will ultimately end in bronchitis or COPD, depending on your susceptibility. You need a PFT. Since Pathological changes started it would be better if you quit smoking. Follow lung excercise and some good anti-inflammatory drugs as adviced by your GP. Also you can opt for safer system ie homoeopathy which will be equally safer and helpful like allopathy drugs.

Smoking leads to chronic bronchitis causing recurrent bouts of cough and wheeze, which can worsen in cold conditions. There are drugs to provide relief but first quit smoking. Irreparable damage to the airways, once it occurs, leads to the stage of chronic asthma and subsequent heart failure.
