Hello, Thanks for the query. In patients with long standing diabetes kidneys do get affected. This happens more rapidly if blood glucose is not in good control. But even with fairly good glucose control kidney function does deteriorate. This causers rise in urea and creatinine and even protein excretion. Therefore, primary requirement is to achive a strict blood glucose control. (there is no mention about hsi FBG< PPBG & HbA1c%) Secondly his protein intake should be about 0.6 g per Kg body weight. Should not be doing too much of vigorous activity. If BP is high, then it should be controlled and brought near normal and fluid intake shoud be adequate. Most important is strict blood glucose control (FBG<100 mg, PP 160 to 180 mg & HbA1c%<7). Thanks.
