My mother is diabetic patient and she had a history of schizophrenia also. Her schizophrenia is very much vanished but from couple of months there is some new type of sudden disordered behavior observed. She was doing very well and it seems like she had never been suffered from schizophrenia but suddenly a phase arrived in which she use to remain silent and also consume very less food. She stop talking and reply very less for any question. This kind of phase use to came with certain frequency since few months. Can anyone please suggest something better for her. I will be grateful.

Dear lybrate-user, Please let me know your mother's age, the symptoms of schizophrenia and diabetes. The duration of those illnesses and the treatment so far, etc. Only with details, you can get a proper reply. In general, schizophrenia is a life long disorder like diabetes. Both of them will be kept under good control with appropriate drugs and other psychosocial methods. Just if she is doing well or the sugar levels are normal, does not mean that she is not having schizophrenia or diabetes. Both have to kept under control with treatment for life. Otherwise relapses like this happen. Withdrawal is one of the symptoms of schizophrenia relapse. It may not happen as soon as you stop the treatment since many medicines stay in the body for a long time. Get back to your psychiatrist and diabetologist to manage her better.
