My wife is 33 weeks pregnant and in the scan it's found that fluid level is 6-7 cms. Will this have any adverse effect on the baby? Doctor has prescribed alamin SN 200 mg two bottles daily for three days but still the fluid level remain the same. Please advice on this matter.

Dear lybrate user. The amniotic fluid is produced by the mother?s placenta during the first trimester and the early part of the second trimester, until the baby?s kidneys are mature enough to take over the task. The baby swallows the fluid as they ?breathe? and then excretes it again as urine, thus maintaining the constant circulation of the fluid. Amniotic fluid deficiency during pregnancy can lead to a Oligohydramnios, which increases the chances of complications like premature birth and various birth defects. At 33 week, the level should be 7.3 cm. For you it is not much less. Do work with your gynecologist.
