My father is 54. He is having irritating roaring noise in ears. Due to this, having severe hearing problems. He tells that he is having a bud like thing in the ear canal and when he presses this with a q-tip, this sound stops. What can be the cause? He was working in a noisy environment for about seven years.

So this we call as tinnitus. It is a symptom of varied causes. And to correct your view on this, hearing loss causes tinnitus and not vice-versa. So your father need to undergo a battery of tests to rule out the causes of tinnitus, and if no cause is identified (as in most of the cases) then it has no defined treatment unfortunately. Every doctor try their own prescription for tinnitus, which works for some .hope this all I info will help you further. Tc.
