I am an obese 40 year old female with pcos and borderline sugars. My thyroid profile is normal and I have thyromegaly or goiter. My endo suggested surgery as it may cause compression to my trachea. Isn't any way to avoid surgery and what caused this when my thyroid functions are normal. May I also know the approximate cost of this surgery.

Hello, Thanks for the query. Thyromegaly tends to occur due to either iodine deficiency or due to other causes like thyrotoxicosis and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. If pressure symptoms are there then surgery is the only option to relieve those. It would have been better if you had mentioned actual T3, T4 & TSH values. Also it is better to check Anti-TPO antibodies. Cost of surgery the specific hospital will only be able to give. Thanks. Thanks.
