Hello sir/mam, I have two dogs one pomerian (6 yrs) n other indian breed (11mnth) both fight with each other furiously. I have been keeping them separate since last 1 month n giving both anxocare medicine. But nothing is helpful. I don't want to neutralise the older owing to the risk involved. Please help how could they become friends as I don't want to leave anyone of them. I am in great stress. Please help.

It is difficult for the older dog to accept the new one especially since it is 11 months old and will demand a lot of attention. So it is better to let the young one roam around freely in the house and keep the pomeranian either on a lease or confined to a limited space until it learns to accept the other. You may have to also let them be together under your care and on a lease for the pom until it learns to accept the other. This will take some time and cajoling with the older dog. Dogs understand a lot of what we say though with a limited vocabulary. So the tone and words we use could give him the message as to what is acceptable against what is not. Be kind but firm and if you need to reprimand the dog physically, roll up a newspaper and wack the dog with it. It will not hurt but will make a loud sound and impress the dog of the corrective measure being imposed. Time will eventually get them to befriend each other. Feeding time in particular must be firmly monitored. Dogs respond very well to positive reinforcement. So whenever the dog complies recognise it with loud and hearty sabashes.
