Hello lybrate-user, Kidney stones, also known as renal calculi, have multiple modality of treatments based on their location, size and symptoms. A 3 mm stone is generally treated medically and hardly ever requires any surgical intervention. Doctor would prescribe you some medications to help you pass the stone with your urine. As far as the use of protein supplements is concerned, a high protein diet, over and above the daily body requirements, can increases uric acid levels and decrease citrate levels. This may aggravate stone formation in patients prone to renal calculi. I suggest, calculate your daily protein requirement and stick to the protein intake a little lower than that. Avoid animal protein, especially red meat. Let me know if I can be of any help.
