My treatment for TUBERCULOSIS LYMPHADENITIS is completed today. I had followed the 6 month treatment. My doctor is saying to stop taking medicine & everything seems to be fine with my health. I want to know. How can I stop taking medicine without any test or report. Please suggest me which are the test & I need to go through before stopping the medicine. TB can reoccur so I don't want to take any chances.

Dear lybrate-user, TB medicines are very effective in curing disease at the end of 6 months. The treating physician may or may not confirm it by tests. Tests to find out if it has been cured include an ultrasound or CT of the involved area along with an fnac from lymph nodes if they are still present for TB smear and culture exam. However you need to know that TB bacteria persists in our body even after complete cure and are responsible for recurrences. These can only be prevented by maintaining the immune system of the body that keeps constantly fighting any infections. And these would include a healthy lifestyle with a protein rich diet with fruits and vegetables. Also prolonged TB treatment does not prevent relapses if 6 months of regular treatment has been taken.
