Hi Sir, My mother is 79 years old and she is schizophrenic patient. Recently we consulted a psychiatrist and he prescribed oleanz and elicia tablets for one month. She had major improvement at that time but this time doctor prescribed only elicia. She feels very drowsy and her eyes as blank. Does not shows interest in anything. Just wants to lie down. Please help.

Hello lybrate-user. Schizophrenia is a neuropsychiatric disorder caused by chemical imbalances in brain. It is characterized by a set of symptoms called positive symptoms such as suspiciousness ,hallucinations. Along with positive symptoms there are a group of symptoms called negative symptoms which are characterized by lack of drive ,decreased interest in activities, decreased communication with others. Kindly have a word with your psychiatrist and mention your doubts. Wish your Mom a speedy recovery.
