Warts are benign growths of the skin or mucocutaneous junctions, which are benign and do not turn into cancer. But they are caused by HPV virus and are contagious. The genotypes of the HPV causing warts is different from those causing cancer. The cancers related to HPV are: Cervical cancer, Anal cancer, Penile Cancer, oropharyngeal cancer, vulvovaginsl Cancer. The Cervarix and Gardasil vaccines are advised to prevent the HPV Infection in age group 11-12 years (can be given at 9 years or from 13-21 in females and 13-26 in males, even after 26 in those with high risk behaviour) in both males and females.
