The dry mouth could be due to xerostomia. It is due to autoimmune destruction of the salivary glands leading to decreased saliva and hence dryness of mouth. Post radiation to head and neck region also causes xerostomia. Artificial saliva substitutes are available for the same. More common cause is diabetes mellitus, where the raised sugars can cause increased excretion of water through the urine, leading to increased frequency of urination and thirst with dry mouth leading to increased drinking of water, called as polydypsia.
