Hi, I am taking insulin human actrapid 12.in morning and human insulin N 10 after breakfast and actrapid 10 before lunch. And before dinner. 8 and 6, my sugar is under control now. But before I used to only human mixtard. Now y this combination. please tel me use of actrapid. And insulin N.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. There are many different types of insulins, some are for rapid action like Insulin Actarapid, which starts action with in minutes of injection and helps prevent after food glucose rise. Other Insulin has a longer duration of action, which will prevent late rise of blood glucose. Human Mixtard is a combination of fast acting and long acting insulin. Some are 30/70 & some are 50/550 combinations. Where 30% is fast acting and other part is long acting. The change must have been made to achieve better glucose control. Thanks.
