Hi I am Female 34 years old, suffering from papilledema as per MRI Report and doctor is suggesting me to be admitted in hospital for 2-3 days. They will release the pressure from brain's vain? They are not giving any medicine. Please suggest, is this the only process of treatment?

Hello lybrate-user, Papilledema is itself not a disease, it just means that there is increased fluid pressure around the brain. Releasing the pressure by spinal tap (lumbar puncture) is only a temporary solution. The treatment should be aimed at treating the underlying cause which increased the pressure in first place. Common causes include haemorrhage or tumours, which need neurosurgery and other causes include hydrocephalus, which needs stent placement (called VP shunt). I can guide you better if you share your MRI and other reports with me in private consultation. Regards.
