Your father is having pancytopenia, which can be because of aplastic anaemia or myelodysplastic syndrome or because of some other cause. Exact diagnosis and detection of cause requires full bone marrow study including cytogenetic, FISH and Flowcytometry study, diagnosed myelodysplastic syndrome is not curable without a bone marrow transplant, but can be prevented to progress with diffeent therapy. The therapy depends on risk group and requires further evaluation. You should consult a hematologist for proper treatment plan for the patient.
